ISLAMABAD — Chinese technology group IBI Beijing United Technology will establish its Digital Economy Headquarters in Pakistan under an initiative expected to generate over $10 billion in potential trade, giving Pakistani small and medium-sized enterprises direct access to China's vast and rapidly growing market.

An 11-member high-level business delegation led by Qian Xiaojun, founder and president of IBI, conveyed the landmark plan during a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad. The project is designed to serve as a comprehensive digital bridge linking Pakistani businesses directly with Chinese manufacturers, suppliers, and investors through a technology-driven platform.

Prime Minister Shehbaz warmly welcomed the investment initiative, describing it as a powerful testament to the expanding business-to-business cooperation between the two countries. He said Pakistan and China enjoy a historic relationship and are all-weather strategic cooperative partners, while expressing strong anticipation for his upcoming official visit to China scheduled later this month.

Qian Xiaojun expressed full confidence in Pakistan's economic outlook and growth potential. He said IBI aims to help build the digital backbone for Pakistan's economic transformation and that the new headquarters will serve as the regional command centre for this digital shift, creating substantial employment and business opportunities for Pakistani enterprises across multiple sectors.

The meeting was attended by key federal ministers including Investment Minister Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh, Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan, IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik, and other senior government officials. The delegation's visit follows significant commitments made at the Pakistan-China B2B Investment Conference held in Beijing in September 2025.

Under the Digital Silk Road framework, the IBI initiative is expected to facilitate technology transfer, digital payments integration, and e-commerce collaboration between Pakistani exporters and Chinese buyers. SMEs in Pakistan will gain access to advanced Chinese technologies, supply chain networks, and financing options that were previously out of reach for small businesses.

Analysts see this investment as a continuation of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor's evolution into the digital domain, where technology and innovation drive the next phase of bilateral economic cooperation. The project is expected to create thousands of direct and indirect jobs in Pakistan's technology sector over the next three to five years.
